“This semester I completed my illustration senior thesis, which was a set of work meant to show visible representation of diversity in outdoor spaces. I am a Trans Queer Appalachian who loves all things outdoors, and often have struggled with the lack of representation of people like me in these spaces. Rock Climbing is my main sport, so with this piece I really wanted to depict a visibly trans person doing what I love and breaking the stereotypes of the types of people and bodies who can be in this space. With the rest of my senior thesis, I made a set of ten illustrations with the goal to depict a spectrum of diversity across multiple outdoor activities which is now made into a full zine.”
