Catapult - Audrey Erion

From the top of my house
I drank from the tap
And would toss my cat out the window
Expectantly it would protest defenestration
And meowed all the way down
The window did not break
Because I opened it beforehand
Before catapulting my cat
I lived alone
And I’d tell myself
“Welp I guess I need a new cat!”
The next day I’d walk down the street
And find a new cat behind the dumpster
And I would take it home
Yet again I launched kitty out the window
This time without tap water
My new cat would vanish below
This time without any noise I felt bad
A new cat would cheer me up
Once again I walked down the street
Back to the dumpster
I always wondered what happened to my cats
Throwing them was bad for their health
Then I remembered a lake in my yard
A lake full of fish and deep enough to swim in
One of these fish was bigger than the others
The size of several cats
The size of three cats even
It was actually a shark
A shark in my yard
That ate all my cats
